Nonprofits Save Nearly $30 Million in Unemployment Claims Costs With UST

UST Claims Administrator Credits Protesting Unemployment Claims and Claims Hearings Attendance as Keys to Member Savings

The Unemployment Services Trust (UST), a program dedicated to helping nonprofits save time and money since 1983, today announced it has saved its membership $28,316,109.96 in unemployment claims costs and an additional $1,652,775.51 million in state tax errors that were refunded last year alone.

By federal law, 501(c)(3) organizations have the exclusive right to opt out of the state unemployment tax (pooled) system and instead pay dollar-for-dollar for their own unemployment claims. UST, which provides direct reimbursing administrative services,  is delivering significant savings and peace of mind to thousands of nonprofits who’ve decided to exercise this right— by providing them e-Filing capabilities, ongoing administrative support and expert claims advice.

"Having won 83% of claims protests last year and increasing hearings win rates, our claims administrator is just another resource we are proud to provide UST participants."

Donna Groh, Executive Director, UST

Because UST members receive step-by-step guidance from a state specific claims representative, they are able to effectively combat improper unemployment claims, reduce paperwork and meet important deadlines—helping them to avoid penalties and assure HR compliance. UST’s claims administrator helps members to feel secure throughout the claims process and acts as an invaluable resource.

“Helping our members realize such significant savings is an incredible feat for the sector as it keeps more money within the nonprofit community and provides the funds needed to further advance their missions,” says Donna Groh, Executive Director. “Having won 83% of claims protests last year and increasing hearings win rates, our claims administrator is just another resource we are proud to provide UST participants.”

Nonprofits with 10 or more employees can get a free Unemployment Cost Analysis to determine whether their organization is overpaying in state unemployment taxes. Those who opt to enroll with UST will receive immediate access to a live HR hotline and claims advice upon joining.
